The Measure of Success

What really is the measure of someone's success? Is it the amount of money you make? How many friends you have? To me when I'm older success will be measured by my happiness. It won't really bother me if I don't turn out as wealthy as a like or have the incredible job, but If I can look back on my life and smile I think that it has been a successful one. When i retire I'd really like to live in a small little town down the shore. It would be nice seeing the Ocean every day and being able to walk on the beach whenever I please.

Inauguration Day

Today, January 20th 2009, is one of the most historic days in United States History. It will be a day that we will always remember and one that has a great place in history. I wish that I could have gone to Washington D.C to witness it but unfortunately I could not. I wish Obama all the best and hope that he has a successful term in office. 

Scarlet Letter So Far

As of now I have read up to chapter 11 in the novel. I have some mixed feelings about it. When I first read the actual book I sometimes get overwhelmed with the vocabulary and "puritan culture" that is often discussed. On the other hand when we talk about it in class I really enjoy the novel and all of the deep meanings that the author has to write about. 

My resolution

Every January first hundreds of thousands of people go out and make New Year's resolutions to try to make the upcoming year the best ever. But, what seems to happen is that a month or two after the resolution is made they seem to fade off into the distance. So for this year my goal is to become a more responsible person who puts more effort into what he is doing. Just like everyone I get lazy with some things so for this year I want to try to become better with my time and manage things better.

Do you think that young people today value education as much as Sara does? Why or Why not?

I feel like young people today do not value eduction nearly as much as they did in the past. With so many distractions now and so much more to do it is easy to forget about the important things. School and learning is going to be what makes us and if we forget about that then this is going to be a very sad nation in the future. Many other countries set their morals around learning and making it fun to learn and I feel like in a way our system is based around just trying to get the job done. Many teachers just try to do their job and not make it interesting for the student and that is why kids dislike to come to school and learn new things.
